"She is not a friend. She is not a mother. She is not a healthcare provider. She is a mother figure of the most ancient kind. Her life experience empowers you. She is a reassuring presence who will always listen to you and support you in your chosen path. She will remind you of those choices, and the reason you made them, when you doubt, are anxious or afraid. She sees you; the real you. Her understanding of your journey supports your self-confidence. She eases pain with a touch, a word, a look...She is a Doula."

What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum doula provides the much needed support to a new mother and her family after a baby is born. This support can be physical, emotional and educational if necessary, depending on what the family requires. New moms are going through some major transitions, whether they are a first time mom or a third time mom. Every baby is a new beginning for a mother. There is physical healing and emotional healing happening during this sensitive and special time. A Postpartum Doula provides the necessary support to help mom work through this healing process and provide the physical and emotional support required during this time. Postpartum Doulas nourish the new mother both physically and emotionally, and help to get things done in a household when they are physically unable to, and need to take the time to heal and recover. There can be emotional support in whatever capacity the mom requires, such as processing her birth story and dealing with the challenges of motherhood. Postpartum Doulas help mom to build the village she will need for the long term, not just in those first few weeks. The goal of this support is to leave the mother with a budding confidence that she will be able to blossom as a mother in her own way and with the ongoing support that she needs.
